Guatemala has officially rolled out its E10 ethanol blending program, integrating 10% ethanol into regular gasoline. This implementation follows years of regulatory, technical, and commercial preparation, with terminals beginning to dispatch E10 into the
distribution system in late August. The retail transition was gradual, allowing service stations to deplete existing conventional gasoline inventories. By August 25, approximately 75% of Guatemala's service stations were dispensing E10. This initiative is the result of a multi-year collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders, significantly supported by the U.S. ethanol industry and the U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council (USGBC). The Guatemalan Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) led the domestic implementation, coordinating with various participants across the supply chain, including ethanol producers, fuel importers, terminal operators, distributors, and service stations. The program creates a substantial new commercial opportunity for U.S. ethanol, as Guatemala's gasoline market and its E10 requirement will generate significant ethanol demand that can be met through both domestic production and imports.
