Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) is collaborating with Amazon to finance new energy infrastructure and grid upgrades for Amazon's data centers in Shreveport, Louisiana. This partnership aims
to ensure that the costs associated with serving Amazon's data centers are not passed on to existing ratepayers. SWEPCO President and COO Brett Mattison emphasized that the company's commitment is for 'growth to pay for growth,' ensuring reliable energy for new investments while safeguarding current customers from increased costs. This initiative is part of Amazon's expanded investment in the region, which now totals $18 billion across three data center campuses. The company's data centers are designed for energy and water efficiency, utilizing air cooling for most of the year and investing up to $400 million in public water infrastructure. Amazon also plans to return more water to local watersheds than its operations consume.
