What's Happening?
A recent study by Somantra has revealed that 70% of specific insurance-related queries on AI search engines in Australia do not mention any corporate brand. The May 2026 AI Search Visibility Report analyzed 34,278 consumer conversations about 20 Australian
insurance brands across platforms like Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT. The study found that when consumers asked detailed questions, such as how to claim pet insurance overseas, seven out of ten AI responses did not name an insurance provider. Arun Prasad, founder of Somantra, highlighted this as a market opportunity for companies to adjust their digital content strategies. The research also showed a concentration of visibility among a few market leaders, with three brands accounting for 50% of mentions on ChatGPT.
Why It's Important?
The findings underscore a significant gap in the digital marketing strategies of Australian insurance companies. As AI becomes a more prevalent tool for consumer decision-making, the absence of brand mentions in AI-generated responses could lead to missed opportunities for customer engagement and acquisition. This situation presents a critical challenge for insurers to enhance their digital presence and ensure their brands are included in AI-driven search results. Companies that fail to adapt may lose market share to competitors who successfully integrate their brands into AI platforms.
What's Next?
Insurers are likely to intensify efforts to improve their digital content and visibility on AI platforms. This may involve investing in SEO strategies tailored to AI algorithms and enhancing their presence in digital conversations. As the window for action narrows, companies that quickly adapt to these changes could gain a competitive edge. Additionally, the study's findings may prompt further research into optimizing AI search visibility across other industries.
