What's Happening?
CenterPoint Energy has announced a new Customer Savings Initiative aimed at providing over $5 billion in potential savings for Texas electric customers over the next decade. This initiative targets residential, small and medium businesses, and commercial
customers across Greater Houston and other Texas areas. The savings are expected to be achieved through the addition of up to 14 new gigawatts of ERCOT eligible base load and studied load projects. These projects will allow larger customers to shoulder more of the fixed grid costs, thereby reducing the financial burden on smaller customers. CenterPoint Energy is also aligning with Texas Governor Greg Abbott's call for greater transparency and clear standards in the development of data centers, supporting the customer protections established by Senate Bill 6 in 2025.
