Jean Lu, CEO of Standard Chartered China, stated that the Chinese yuan (RMB) will not challenge the U.S. dollar (USD) as the global reserve currency during her career. However, she suggested that the yuan might have a chance to compete with other second-tier
currencies like the Japanese yen and the British pound. This assessment comes despite Beijing's ongoing efforts to promote the internationalization of the renminbi, as outlined in its most recent five-year plan. The U.S. dollar currently accounts for 57% of global foreign exchange reserves, while the yuan holds only 2%.
