LG Display has introduced a new OLED panel technology called FLiPP (FMM-Less innovative Pixel Patterning), which aims to significantly improve OLED display performance and manufacturing efficiency. This innovative method eliminates the traditional fine
metal mask (FMM) process used in OLED manufacturing, which typically creates gaps between sub-pixels. By removing the FMM, FLiPP increases brightness by 1.6 times, extends panel lifespan by 2.4 times, and reduces power consumption by 13% compared to FMM-produced panels under identical conditions. These improvements are attributed to a roughly 55% increase in aperture ratio. Furthermore, FLiPP offers manufacturing cost benefits by removing the need for new masks with every panel size or resolution change and by allowing the use of 8.5th-generation mother glass as a single whole piece, leading to up to 64% higher mother glass utilization efficiency.
