What's Happening?
Amaroq, a mine development company, has commenced drilling operations at the Ilua Pegmatite rare earth element (REE) prospect located in South Greenland. This marks the beginning of their 2026 exploration program under the Gardaq Joint Venture (JV) in the Nunarsuit
licence area. The drilling targets three sites across a pegmatite system that extends over 5 kilometers. Initial surface sampling conducted in 2025 revealed total rare earth oxide grades of up to 2.3%, with a significant portion consisting of heavy rare earth elements. The samples also indicated low radionuclide levels, which are below the regulatory limits set by the Greenland Government. The Ilua Pegmatite is part of the Gardar Alkaline Province, known for its rare earth and critical mineral deposits. Amaroq's exploration VP, James Gilbertson, highlighted the importance of this milestone, noting the pegmatite system's conventional processability and low uranium and thorium content.

The drilling at Ilua is significant as it represents the first subsurface evaluation of the area's mineralization, aiming to assess its size, scale, and potential economic value. The presence of processable minerals such as britholite, monazite, and zircon, which bear rare earths, could have substantial implications for the rare earth industry.
