What's Happening?
The SAI Platform has officially launched the Regenerating Together Programme (RTP), a new initiative aimed at promoting regenerative agriculture practices. Over 40 leading food and agriculture businesses, including major global drinks companies like Asahi
Group, Carlsberg Group, Diageo, Danone, Suntory, and Nestlé, have pledged their support. The programme provides a framework for consistent and credible measurement of progress in regenerative agriculture, with guidance for independent verification and benchmarking. Developed over four years with input from various stakeholders, the RTP aims to enhance supply chain resilience against climate change and improve farmers' livelihoods.
Why It's Important?
The launch of the Regenerating Together Programme represents a significant step towards sustainable agriculture, addressing the urgent need for more resilient and environmentally friendly farming practices. By involving major industry players, the initiative seeks to drive large-scale adoption of regenerative methods, which can help mitigate climate change impacts and support sustainable food production. The programme's emphasis on collaboration and shared approaches highlights the importance of industry-wide efforts to achieve meaningful progress. This initiative could influence other sectors to adopt similar frameworks, potentially leading to broader systemic changes in agricultural practices.
What's Next?
As the Regenerating Together Programme gains momentum, participating companies are expected to implement the framework across their supply chains, with independent verification ensuring accountability. The success of the initiative will depend on the continued collaboration between businesses, farmers, and other stakeholders. The programme's impact will be monitored, with potential adjustments made to enhance its effectiveness. The initiative may also inspire further commitments from other companies and sectors, contributing to a more sustainable global food system.
