What's Happening?
EVgo is set to install more than 500 DC fast-charging stalls at shopping centers across the United States. These chargers will be located at properties owned by Brixmor Property Group, which operates 346 open-air neighborhood shopping centers in 29 states.
The rollout will include sites in Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Each site will feature up to 12 EVgo DC fast chargers, providing convenient charging options for electric vehicle drivers while they shop.
Why It's Important?
This initiative by EVgo represents a significant step in expanding the electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the U.S. By placing chargers at shopping centers, EVgo is integrating charging into consumers' daily routines, potentially increasing the adoption of electric vehicles. This move supports the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions and aligns with broader environmental goals. It also enhances the appeal of Brixmor's shopping centers by offering additional amenities to attract customers.
What's Next?
The deployment of these chargers is scheduled to begin later this year, with the first site planned for Barn Plaza in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. As the rollout progresses, EVgo may announce additional locations and charging speeds. The success of this initiative could encourage other property groups to consider similar partnerships, further expanding the EV charging network across the country.
