What's Happening?
The Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training (DLT), under Director Matthew Weldon, has announced its second Rhode Island Corporate Career Fair. This event is specifically designed to assist Rhode Islanders affected by the Hasbro relocation, as well
as any other individuals seeking new career opportunities. Organized in collaboration with Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston, the fair aims to provide a supportive environment for career advancement or changes, irrespective of current employment status or background. The career fair is scheduled for Saturday, November 14th, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the CCRI – Knight Campus, located at 400 East Avenue, Warwick, RI 02886. Over 25 prominent employers are expected to participate, actively recruiting for various corporate-level positions across multiple sectors, including business operations, finance, human resources, information technology, marketing, project management, and logistics. Job seekers can anticipate a wide array of opportunities spanning different industries and skill levels.
Why It's Important?
This job fair is crucial for the Rhode Island workforce, particularly in light of the economic changes brought about by the Hasbro relocation. The event provides a direct and accessible platform for individuals who have been displaced or are seeking new employment to connect with a diverse group of employers. By offering a wide range of corporate-level positions, the DLT and its partners are addressing the immediate need for job placement and career transition support. The initiative also highlights the state's commitment to maintaining a robust workforce and mitigating the impact of corporate shifts on local communities. The involvement of various support services, such as DLT Career Center staff, Skills for Rhode Island’s Future, and the United Way of Rhode Island, underscores a comprehensive approach to workforce development, aiming to empower job seekers with the necessary tools and resources to thrive in a changing economic landscape.
What's Next?
Job seekers are strongly encouraged to pre-register for the career fair, although it is not mandatory. Attendees should bring multiple copies of their resumes and be prepared to engage directly with hiring representatives. The DLT will continue to offer free, personalized career services, including one-on-one job coaching, resume assistance, and access to three American Job Centers located in Providence, West Warwick, and Woonsocket. These centers provide in-person and virtual job development support. Additionally, the DLT will provide personalized referrals to low- or no-cost training programs designed to help individuals upskill or transition into new career paths. The EmployRI state job board will also remain a key resource, connecting job seekers with current openings from top employers across the state. The ongoing efforts aim to ensure that Rhode Islanders have continuous access to quality career opportunities and support.
Beyond the Headlines
The proactive response by the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training to the Hasbro relocation signifies a broader trend in state-level workforce development strategies. As industries evolve and companies relocate, states are increasingly focusing on comprehensive support systems to cushion the economic impact on their residents. This event not only addresses immediate employment needs but also fosters long-term career resilience by offering training and skill-building opportunities. The collaboration between government agencies, educational institutions like CCRI, and non-profit organizations such as the United Way of Rhode Island, exemplifies a multi-faceted approach to economic stability and growth. Such initiatives are vital for maintaining a competitive workforce and ensuring that local economies can adapt to and recover from significant corporate changes, ultimately contributing to the overall well-being of the community.
