What's Happening?
Resolute Mining is set to significantly increase its gold production, aiming to more than double its annual output from a 2026 guidance of 250,000-275,000 ounces to over 500,000 ounces by 2028. This ambitious plan is centered around the Doropo project
in Côte d'Ivoire, which is currently under construction and expected to produce its first gold in the second half of 2028. The project is supported by a post-tax net present value of $2,543 million and a 72% internal rate of return, with a payback period of just over a year at a gold price of $4,000 per ounce. Resolute Mining's CEO, Chris Eger, has expressed confidence in the company's ability to achieve these targets, citing productive engagement with government officials across its operating jurisdictions.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of Resolute Mining's production capacity is significant for the gold industry, particularly in West Africa, where the company is diversifying its operations. This move could enhance the company's market position and financial performance, especially given the current high gold prices. The project also reflects a broader trend of increasing fiscal demands from African governments, which could impact the profitability of mining operations. Resolute's strategy to manage these challenges through local engagement and leveraging its existing assets could serve as a model for other companies operating in similar environments.
What's Next?
As the Doropo project progresses, Resolute Mining will continue to focus on securing local financing and managing geopolitical risks, particularly in Mali, which currently represents a significant portion of its production value. The company plans to complete feasibility studies for the ABC project in Côte d'Ivoire by the end of 2027, potentially adding a fourth mine to its portfolio. The successful execution of these projects could reduce the company's reliance on Mali and diversify its production base, potentially narrowing the valuation gap with its peers.
