What's Happening?
Kalitta Air has partnered with Visionary Training Resources (VTR) to enhance its training programs for both pilots and maintenance technicians using virtual reality technology. The collaboration involves the deployment of VTR's FlightDeckToGo platform
across Kalitta Air's Boeing 777 fleet. This platform allows pilots to familiarize themselves with the B777 flight deck through guided in-headset instruction, enabling them to learn and rehearse procedures before entering the simulator. For maintenance training, the platform provides virtual environments that support engine start training and handling of abnormal situations without needing access to a simulator or actual aircraft.
Why It's Important?
The adoption of virtual reality in training represents a significant advancement in aviation training methodologies. By integrating VR technology, Kalitta Air aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its training programs, potentially reducing costs associated with traditional simulator use and aircraft downtime. This move could set a precedent for other airlines to follow, enhancing overall safety and operational readiness in the aviation industry. The initiative also highlights the growing trend of using advanced technologies to address training challenges in complex operational environments.
