What's Happening?
Emmerson has successfully progressed its patent application for the Khemisset multi-mineral process (KMP), receiving confirmation of patent status from the UK Intellectual Property Office. The KMP, developed for the Khemisset Potash Project in Morocco,
significantly reduces water usage by 50% and increases the recovery rate of muriate of potash from 85% to 91%. Additionally, it produces two new slow-release multi-nutrient fertilizers, struvite and vivianite, which offer environmental benefits by reducing phosphate run-off. The Khemisset Project boasts a resource estimate of 537 million tonnes of potassium oxide, with a development pathway that promises robust economic returns.
Why It's Important?
The granting of the patent for the KMP process is a significant milestone for Emmerson, enhancing the project's economic viability and sustainability. By improving resource efficiency and creating environmentally friendly fertilizers, the project aligns with global sustainability goals. This development could position Emmerson as a leader in the potash industry, potentially attracting investment and partnerships. The project's success could also have broader implications for the agricultural sector, offering innovative solutions to reduce environmental impact and improve crop yields.
