SpaceX's Starlink has revised its Personal Maritime internet service plan to include larger boats. Previously, the plan was limited to vessels 40 feet or less in length, but it now supports watercraft up to 60 feet. This change was noted by a Facebook
user who identified a revision in the service plan agreement document on Starlink.com. The Personal Maritime plan, which costs $185 per month, was introduced following complaints about previous changes to Starlink's satellite internet service that impacted digital nomads at sea. It is specifically designed for small boat owners who travel internationally and rely on Starlink for connectivity across different countries. The plan is not openly advertised on Starlink.com; instead, eligible boat owners receive an email invitation to sign up and must submit documentation, including their vessel's registration certificate. Other boat owners can switch to the plan by filing a customer support ticket. Alongside the expanded vessel length, SpaceX has also increased the rate for its Ocean Mode feature to $6 per gigabyte, up from $2 per gigabyte. Ocean Mode provides Starlink access beyond 12 nautical miles from the coast and in international waters.
