What's Happening?
Dr. Ronit Berdugo, a veterinary partner at SynergyLabs, explains that while 'zoomies'—sudden bursts of energy in pets—are typically normal, they can sometimes signal health issues. Known as Frenetic Random Activity Periods (FRAPs), these episodes are common
in pets and usually harmless. However, if a pet's zoomies pattern changes, especially in older animals, it may warrant a veterinary examination. Changes such as increased frequency, difficulty calming down, or accompanying symptoms like confusion or altered sleep patterns could indicate underlying medical conditions.
Why It's Important?
Understanding the nature of zoomies and their potential implications is crucial for pet owners. While these episodes are often just a way for pets to release energy, they can also provide insights into a pet's health. Recognizing when zoomies are a red flag can lead to early detection of issues like cognitive dysfunction or pain, allowing for timely intervention. This awareness can improve the quality of life for pets and prevent more serious health problems. Educating pet owners about these signs can also reduce unnecessary anxiety and promote better pet care practices.
