Entergy Corporation, a major U.S. utility company, is exploring the potential deployment of Holtec International's SMR-300 small modular reactor. This initiative is part of a collaboration with Holtec and South Korea's Hyundai Engineering & Construction.
The parties have signed a memorandum of agreement to assess the feasibility of deploying the SMR-300 across Entergy's service areas, which include Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas. The collaboration aims to identify commercially viable opportunities for the SMR-300 to support economic growth, grid reliability, and long-term energy security. The SMR-300 is a pressurized water reactor designed to produce about 300 MW of electrical power. Entergy's evaluation will consider customer demand, potential sites, and commercial structures for dual-unit SMR-300 projects.
