InsectBiotech, a Spanish startup, has raised €7.2 million ($8.3 million) to establish a new facility in Andalusia, Spain, aimed at converting agricultural byproducts into protein, oil, and fertilizer using black soldier fly larvae. The funding round includes
contributions from Arcano Partners and undisclosed U.S. investors. The facility is expected to process up to 7,500 tons of agricultural by-products annually and produce 1,300 tons of fresh larvae per year, translating to 300 tons of high-protein meal. The initiative marks a significant transition from research to commercial-scale manufacturing, with plans to ramp up production to 10,000 tons of larvae.
