A report from the Blackbaud Institute highlights significant gaps in the effectiveness and implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) within the nonprofit sector. The report, titled 'Bridging the Effectiveness Gap,' reveals that only a small fraction
of organizations have moved beyond experimental AI use, with about 10% achieving substantial benefits. The majority, approximately 75%, use AI in fragmented ways, limiting its impact. The report identifies two major gaps: the Data-Readiness Gap, where less than 20% of organizations rate their data health as excellent, and the Transparency Gap, where 76% of donors expect clear AI usage disclosure, but only 26% of organizations currently provide it. The findings are based on surveys conducted with 1,389 social impact professionals and 1,034 donors in the U.S.
