What's Happening?
The SunZia Wind Project, the largest wind project in the United States, has commenced commercial operations in New Mexico. Developed by Pattern Energy Group, the project features over 900 turbines and generates 3,650 megawatts of power, enough to supply
approximately one million homes. This project, which took nearly two decades of planning and permitting, significantly increases New Mexico's wind power capacity, now accounting for 45% of the state's total power capacity mix. The generated power will be transmitted to central Arizona and Southern California through a 550-mile transmission line. The project spans three counties in New Mexico, with San Miguel County hosting nearly 250 turbines and Lincoln and Torrance counties hosting almost 700 turbines.
