An AI-assisted optimization competition, organized by StarkWare, Yukon Research, and Eigen Labs, has significantly reduced the estimated computing cost for preparing a Quantum-Safe Bitcoin (QSB) transaction.
The cost, which was approximately $320 in August, is now estimated at around $67 under StarkWare's hardware assumptions, representing a 79% reduction. QSB is an experimental method developed by StarkWare that uses hash-based cryptography to move eligible Bitcoin under existing consensus rules, serving as a contingency against potential future threats from powerful quantum computers. These quantum computers could theoretically derive private keys from exposed public keys, allowing unauthorized access to funds.
