What's Happening?
SolarDuck, a Dutch-Norwegian company, has received €3.2 million from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency to develop an Offshore Floating Power & Utility Hub. This platform is designed to provide power and utility services to offshore installations, such
as monitoring systems and subsea oil and gas hardware. The hub will be movable and equipped with storage and auxiliary systems to ensure continuous power supply. SolarDuck's design features semi-submersible triangular platforms that elevate solar panels above the water, allowing waves to pass underneath, thus minimizing structural stress. The funding will support engineering and validation efforts in collaboration with MARIN, the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands.

The research phase will culminate in a basic design and validated answers regarding mooring and motion dynamics. SolarDuck plans to engage in Joint Industry Projects to test the hub under real-world conditions once the research phase concludes. The company aims to attract offshore operators to adopt this technology, potentially expanding its customer base and market reach.
