What's Happening?
BluEnergies Ltd. and TotalEnergies are advancing their exploration efforts in the Harper basin offshore Liberia. The companies are engaged in a comprehensive work program that includes seismic reprocessing and seabed surveys to mature drilling prospects
across Blocks LB-26, LB-30, and LB-31. The seismic reprocessing, which covers approximately 6,167 km², is over 50% complete and aims to enhance seismic imaging for better identification of hydrocarbon targets. Concurrently, a seabed survey program is underway, covering about 4,045 km², with data acquisition expected to conclude in the third quarter of 2026.
Why It's Important?
The exploration activities in the Harper basin are significant as they represent ongoing efforts to tap into potential hydrocarbon resources in the West Africa Transform Margin. This region, along with its South American counterpart, is known for successful exploration and production activities. The program's progress could lead to the identification of new drilling prospects, potentially boosting the energy sector's output and contributing to regional economic development. The involvement of major operators in the area underscores the basin's attractiveness and potential for future discoveries.
What's Next?
As the exploration program progresses, the integration of data from the seabed surveys and seismic reprocessing will be crucial in refining drillable prospects. The companies plan to incorporate this data into an updated 3D seismic interpretation by the fourth quarter of 2026. The results will guide future well location selection, potentially leading to new drilling activities. The success of these efforts could attract further investment and interest in the region's energy resources.
