Alexia Cornea added 10 kills and hit .450, while Elena Maynulet contributed eight kills and two service aces. Senior Delaney Seaman reached a career milestone with 10 digs, moving her into Columbia's top-10 in career digs. The Lions, now with an 8-11 overall record and 2-8 in Ivy League play, displayed a balanced attack with five players recording five or more kills, and a team hitting percentage of .293.
Why It's Important?
This decisive victory over Princeton is a significant morale booster for the Columbia volleyball team, especially given their 2-8 Ivy League record. Sweeping a conference opponent, particularly one like Princeton (8-10 overall, 6-4 Ivy), demonstrates the team's potential and ability to compete at a high level. The season-high 13 blocks highlight a strong defensive effort at the net, which can be a game-changing factor in volleyball. Individual performances, such as Danica Nordlicht's efficiency and Delaney Seaman's career milestone, contribute to team confidence and provide positive momentum. This win could serve as a turning point for the Lions, potentially improving their standing within the Ivy League and setting a more positive tone for the remainder of their season, impacting their overall program trajectory and future recruitment.
What's Next?
Columbia volleyball is scheduled to return to action next Friday when they host Brown. The match between the Lions and the Bears is set for a 7 p.m. first serve. This upcoming game presents an opportunity for Columbia to build on their recent success against Princeton and continue to improve their Ivy League record. Maintaining the strong defensive performance at the net and the balanced offensive attack will be crucial for securing another victory. The team will likely focus on refining their strategies and capitalizing on the momentum gained from their sweep. The outcome of the match against Brown will be important for their conference standing and their overall season outlook.
Beyond the Headlines
