What's Happening?
Princess Cruises has completed a two-week drydock enhancement of its Royal Princess ship in Singapore, introducing several new features and refreshed spaces. The most significant addition is the Sanctuary Collection, a premium, all-inclusive experience
now available on Royal Princess as part of a rollout to five Royal-Class ships. This collection includes access to the Sanctuary Club, elevated amenities, personalized service, and newly constructed ocean-view staterooms, along with suites, mini-suites, deluxe balcony, and balcony staterooms. A dedicated Sanctuary Restaurant on deck 6 is exclusively for Sanctuary Collection guests. The ship's Piazza has also been revitalized with the addition of O’Malley’s Irish Pub and an expanded Bellini’s cocktail bar. Furthermore, the Princess Casino has been reconfigured for a more open gaming environment and additional slot machines, and the Effy jewelry boutique has been refreshed. The drydock also added 20 new guest cabins, including mini-suites, oceanview, interior, and single interior staterooms.
Why It's Important?
These enhancements by Princess Cruises are significant for the U.S. cruise market and its consumers, particularly those seeking luxury and exclusive experiences. The introduction of the Sanctuary Collection on Royal Princess, and its planned expansion to other Royal-Class ships, signals a strategic move by Princess Cruises to cater to a higher-end demographic, potentially increasing revenue streams and market share in the premium cruise segment. The addition of new dining and entertainment venues like O’Malley’s Irish Pub and an expanded Bellini’s aims to improve the overall guest experience, which can lead to higher customer satisfaction and repeat bookings. The reconfigured casino and refreshed retail spaces also contribute to a more modern and appealing onboard environment, directly impacting guest spending and loyalty. This investment reflects a broader industry trend of upgrading existing fleets to remain competitive and meet evolving passenger expectations for comfort, luxury, and diverse onboard offerings.
What's Next?
Following its drydock in Singapore, the Royal Princess is scheduled to head to Australia for a season of cruising from Sydney. During this period, guests will have the opportunity to experience the newly enhanced spaces while exploring destinations in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. The Royal Princess is one of three Princess ships operating in the region for the 2026-27 season, offering 42 unique itineraries and 62 departures. This deployment suggests Princess Cruises is strategically positioning its upgraded vessels in key international markets to maximize their appeal and operational efficiency. The success of these enhancements on Royal Princess will likely influence future upgrade decisions across the rest of the Royal-Class fleet, as the company continues its commitment to providing memorable holidays and exceptional guest experiences.
