Jianshui (Yunnan), an ancient tofu city, boasts comfortable 23°C August temperatures and free ancient city access. Jingxi (Guangxi), a karst secret on the China-Vietnam border, offers scenery comparable to Guilin at half the price, with an average 21°C. Lastly, Hanzhong (Shaanxi), the 'Little Jiangnan' of the Northwest, provides a cooler alternative to Xi'an at 24°C, rich in Han and Three Kingdoms history.
