What's Happening?
The 'Read Across Buffalo' program has commenced at Canalside, aiming to encourage children to continue reading during the summer months. This ten-week initiative, started by the Christian Central Academy
in 2024, provides participants with an interactive reading map featuring city landmarks. Children can earn books and prizes by showing their reading achievements at these locations. Heather Mattiuzzo, a representative of the program, emphasized the importance of maintaining reading habits over the summer to prevent learning loss. The program will run until August 29, offering a fun and educational way for children to engage with reading.
Why It's Important?
The 'Read Across Buffalo' program addresses the issue of summer reading loss, a common challenge where students lose some of the academic gains made during the school year. By incentivizing reading with prizes and interactive activities, the program aims to keep children's minds active and engaged. This initiative not only supports educational development but also fosters a love for reading, which can have long-term benefits for literacy and academic success. The program's community-based approach also strengthens local engagement and support for educational initiatives.
