What's Happening?
On the October 28 episode of AEW Dynamite, Queen Aminata defeated Persephone to become the new TBS Champion. This victory marks Aminata's first time defeating Persephone in her career and follows her win in a number one contender's match against Maya
World last week. The championship match was fraught with interference from Britt Baker, who repeatedly attempted to aid Persephone. Despite Baker's efforts, Aminata persevered, countering Persephone's moves and ultimately securing the pinfall after a headbutt and a running knee strike. Following her victory, Queen Aminata was congratulated in the ring by several fellow wrestlers, including Willow Nightingale, Thunder Rosa, Hyan, Maya World, Mina Shirakawa, Harley Cameron, and Kris Statlander.
Why It's Important?
The crowning of Queen Aminata as the new TBS Champion signifies a significant shift in the AEW women's division. A new champion can inject fresh storylines and rivalries, potentially increasing viewership and fan engagement for the women's matches. Aminata's hard-fought victory, overcoming external interference, establishes her as a resilient and credible champion, which can elevate the prestige of the TBS Championship. For the other wrestlers who came out to congratulate her, it suggests a sense of camaraderie and respect within the division, which can be a positive narrative for the promotion. This change in championship status could lead to new challengers emerging and a renewed focus on the TBS title picture, impacting the overall direction of AEW's women's programming.
What's Next?
With Queen Aminata now holding the TBS Championship, the immediate future will likely involve her first title defenses. Potential challengers could emerge from the group of wrestlers who congratulated her, or from other members of the AEW women's roster looking to make their mark. The interference from Britt Baker during the match suggests a potential ongoing rivalry or a future confrontation between Baker and Aminata. The dynamic between Aminata and Persephone may also continue, possibly leading to a rematch. The focus will be on how Aminata establishes her reign and what new feuds and storylines develop around the TBS Championship, shaping the narrative of the women's division in the coming weeks and months.
Beyond the Headlines
The narrative of a new champion overcoming adversity, particularly external interference, resonates deeply within professional wrestling, symbolizing perseverance and legitimate skill. Queen Aminata's victory, despite Britt Baker's attempts to sway the match, reinforces the idea that true talent can prevail against unfair odds. This storyline can inspire fans and highlight the competitive spirit within the women's division. Furthermore, the public display of support from her peers post-match can foster a positive image of the women's locker room, emphasizing mutual respect and collective growth.
