A recent study published in the journal Nutrition & Diabetes, involving a pooled analysis of individual data from five trials, investigated the association between different time-restricted eating (TRE) window durations and changes in body weight and cardiometabolic
outcomes. The research included 124 participants, predominantly female, with a mean age of 47. Participants were assigned to TRE regimens of 8, 10, or 12 hours, or served as controls maintaining habitual eating patterns. On average, those in TRE groups reduced their eating window by approximately four hours and experienced a mean weight loss of 2.18 kg from baseline. The study found that participants assigned to an 8-hour TRE window lost more weight compared to those on a 12-hour TRE regimen or controls. While a 10-hour TRE window also showed weight loss, the difference compared to the 8-hour group was not statistically significant. The study also noted that greater decreases in the eating window during TRE were associated with greater weight loss, though this relationship weakened after adjusting for sex, age, and baseline BMI. No consistent relationship was found between TRE duration and lipid profile, blood pressure, or fasting plasma glucose.
