What's Happening?
An award-winning Ferrari Daytona SP3, part of Ferrari’s exclusive Icona Series, is set to be auctioned, with an estimated selling price exceeding $10 million. This particular model, chassis 277499, was initially retained by Ferrari SpA until March 2025
before being acquired by its first private owner. The Daytona SP3 is one of only 599 units produced and was exclusively offered to VIP Ferrari customers. It features a 6.5-liter V12 engine, derived from models like the 812 Superfast and LaFerrari, delivering 829 brake horsepower. This makes it the most potent non-electrically assisted 12-cylinder engine in Ferrari road car history. The car can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.85 seconds. The vehicle is finished in Giallo Triplo Strato (triple-layer yellow) with a Rosso Ferrari leather interior and has 2,948 miles on its odometer. It was named the Most Beautiful Supercar of 2022 and received the Red Dot Best of the Best design award.
Why It's Important?
The auction of this Ferrari Daytona SP3 highlights the significant value and investment potential of ultra-exclusive, limited-production luxury vehicles. The fact that this model was initially reserved for VIP Ferrari customers and is now available on the open market underscores the dynamic nature of the high-end collector car market. The anticipated sale price of over $10 million reflects not only the car's rarity and performance but also its status as an award-winning design icon. This event could set new benchmarks for the value of modern classic Ferraris and influence future pricing for similar limited-edition models. For collectors and investors, such auctions represent a rare opportunity to acquire vehicles that are likely to appreciate in value, driven by their exclusivity, heritage, and critical acclaim. The sale also showcases the enduring appeal of Ferrari's engineering and design prowess, particularly its commitment to powerful, naturally aspirated engines in an increasingly electrified automotive landscape.
What's Next?
The Ferrari Daytona SP3 is scheduled to cross the block at RM Sotheby’s London auction on October 31, 2026. The auction will determine the final sale price, which is projected to be between $10.0 million and $12.7 million. Following the sale, the new owner will take possession of the vehicle, which comes with its owner’s guides, ECC Certificate of Conformity, tool and tire inflator kits, and both removable roof panels. The outcome of this auction will be closely watched by the automotive collector community, as it could influence the valuation of other high-value, limited-edition supercars. The sale will also provide further insight into the strength of the luxury car market and the demand for vehicles with significant provenance and design accolades. Future sales of other Icona Series models may be benchmarked against this result.
Beyond the Headlines
The sale of this Ferrari Daytona SP3 transcends a mere transaction, touching upon the cultural and artistic significance of automotive design. Its recognition as the 'Most Beautiful Supercar' and a Red Dot award winner elevates it beyond a performance machine to a piece of modern art. This phenomenon reflects a broader trend where high-performance vehicles are increasingly viewed as tangible assets and cultural artifacts, much like fine art or rare collectibles. The car's design, an homage to Ferrari's 1967 Daytona sweep, connects contemporary engineering with a rich racing heritage, appealing to a sense of nostalgia and historical appreciation. The exclusivity of the Icona Series, initially offered only to VIP clients, also highlights the intricate social dynamics and status symbols within the ultra-wealthy community, where access to such vehicles is a mark of prestige. This auction underscores the blend of engineering, artistry, and exclusivity that defines the pinnacle of the automotive world.
