MLS NEXT Pro, the reserve league for Major League Soccer, has announced a significant change to its competition calendar, effective in 2027. The league plans to transition from its current schedule to a Summer-to-Spring format, aligning with Major League Soccer and

This shift will begin with a 'Sprint Season' in February 2027, where each club will play 14 regular season matches from mid-February to late April, followed by four rounds of playoffs and culminating in the MLS NEXT Pro Cup in late May. The inaugural 2027-28 MLS NEXT Pro season will then feature 28 regular season matches per club, with the first half running from mid-July to mid-December, followed by a winter break, and the second half from early February to early May. The playoffs for this season will conclude with the MLS NEXT Pro Cup in early June.
