What's Happening?
Kyndryl, a leading provider of enterprise technology services, has released its second annual People Readiness Report, which reveals a significant decline in workforce readiness for AI integration. The global study surveyed 1,100 senior business and technology leaders
across eight countries, finding that only 23% of organizations believe their workforce is fully prepared for AI, a decrease of six percentage points from the previous year. The report emphasizes the importance of redesigning work roles and implementing change management to align with AI advancements. Despite the rapid adoption of AI, with 57% of organizations embedding AI into core business processes, only 32% have achieved at least one of their top AI goals. The study identifies a group of 'Pacesetters'—organizations that have successfully redesigned roles, implemented change management, and built workforce readiness—who are experiencing better outcomes from AI investments.
Why It's Important?
The findings of the Kyndryl report underscore the critical need for organizations to focus on workforce readiness as they integrate AI technologies. As AI continues to reshape business processes, the gap between AI expectations and execution could widen if workforce readiness is not addressed. This has significant implications for U.S. industries, as companies that fail to prepare their workforce may struggle to realize the full potential of AI, impacting innovation and competitive advantage. The report suggests that organizations investing in upskilling and retraining their employees are more likely to achieve positive outcomes, highlighting the importance of human capital in the digital transformation journey.
What's Next?
Organizations are expected to continue investing in AI technologies, with worldwide spending projected to reach $2.52 trillion by 2026. As AI adoption accelerates, companies will need to prioritize workforce readiness to keep pace with technological advancements. This may involve redesigning roles, implementing comprehensive training programs, and establishing governance frameworks to build trust in AI systems. The report indicates that organizations with strong governance and workforce readiness are more likely to achieve transformative outcomes, suggesting that these areas will be key focus points for businesses moving forward.
