What's Happening?
Yangguang News has officially released an AI-generated music video titled 'Where’s My Chang’an, Tell Me Now.' The project, which took eight months to complete, features lyrics by Wan Bo, president and editor-in-chief of Yangguang News, AI-generated composition
and arrangement by Yangguang AI Studio, and production support from Xi’an Fusheng Film and Culture Communication Company. The video blends the Shaanxi dialect, pop music, and AI-generated visuals to engage younger audiences with Tang poetry and promote Chinese culture. It serves as the seed video for a global youth short-video campaign, 'A True Friend Remains Close at Heart, Though Miles Apart: Me, Tang Poetry, and AI.' The creative team adjusted the AI-generated rhythm and instrumentation to match the emotional progression of the lyrics, and AI-generated visuals required repeated adjustments to prompts, styles, and color balance to align with the artistic vision.
Why It's Important?
This initiative highlights the growing integration of artificial intelligence in creative industries, particularly in music and visual arts. By leveraging AI, traditional cultural elements like Tang poetry are being presented in modern, accessible formats, potentially broadening their appeal to younger demographics. The project demonstrates how AI can be used not just for automation but as a tool for creative expression and cultural preservation. The use of AI in generating both music and visuals showcases its versatility and potential to transform how cultural content is produced and consumed. This approach could set a precedent for other cultural institutions looking to revitalize historical content and engage new audiences through technological innovation.
What's Next?
The music video is intended to serve as a creative reference for participants in the global youth short-video campaign, demonstrating how Tang poetry can be interpreted and how AI can be utilized in the creative process. Its engaging presentation is expected to generate discussion on social media, attracting more young people to learn about and participate in the campaign. The project's success could lead to further AI-driven initiatives aimed at cultural promotion and education, potentially influencing how historical and artistic content is shared globally. The integration of AI in such projects suggests a future where technology plays a significant role in making cultural heritage more accessible and relevant to contemporary audiences.
Beyond the Headlines
The project delves into the deeper implications of AI's role in cultural dissemination and preservation. By making Tang poetry 'Chang’an for the World,' the initiative aims to transcend geographical and generational barriers, transforming a specific cultural heritage into a shared spiritual home. The use of AI to blend traditional dialect with pop music and futuristic visuals raises questions about the evolving definition of art and authorship in the age of artificial intelligence. It also highlights the potential for AI to foster cross-cultural understanding by presenting complex historical narratives in universally appealing formats. This development could spark broader discussions on the ethical considerations and creative boundaries of AI in cultural production.
