What's Happening?
Maersk has taken delivery of its first very large ammonia carrier (VLAC), the Jane Maersk, from HD Hyundai Samho. This vessel, with a capacity of 93,000 cubic meters, is the first of five ordered by Maersk in November 2023. It is designed to transport
both liquefied ammonia and LPG, equipped with advanced systems to handle ammonia's corrosive and toxic properties safely. The delivery marks a significant step in Maersk's strategy to expand its fleet with environmentally friendly vessels. This year alone, Maersk has secured nine VLACs, bringing its total order backlog to 22 vessels valued at $2.55 billion.
