What's Happening?
The Waukegan Port District, which manages the Waukegan National Airport, has created its own fixed-base operations (FBO) provider, the North Shore Jet Center. This new entity will take over ground-based operations at the airport starting October 1, replacing
previous reliance on outside contractors. Airport manager Skip Goss stated that this move is a "unique, once-in-a-generation opportunity" to enhance services and generate revenue for airport improvements. The North Shore Jet Center will provide a full range of FBO services, including fueling, deicing, baggage handling, restrooms, catering, and vehicle rentals, as well as a lounge and sleeping area for pilots and passengers. Steve Bowlin, with three decades of FBO management experience, has been appointed as the General Manager of the North Shore Jet Center. The Port District plans to use increased revenue from this operation to fund the construction of a new executive terminal in 2031, replacing the current aging facility.
