What's Happening?
Kenorland Minerals has successfully completed its initial diamond drilling program at the Western Wabigoon Project in north-western Ontario, Canada. This project is operated under an option agreement with a subsidiary of Centerra Gold. The summer 2026
campaign involved drilling 4,089 meters across nine holes, specifically targeting the W2 area, which has shown previous evidence of gold through trenching and shallow drilling. The focus was on a 3km-long gold-in-till and heavy mineral concentrate anomaly along the Sorry Mac Trend. The drilling confirmed the presence of north-north-east and north-east-trending shear zones, believed to intersect within the W2 target. Various alteration styles and sulphide mineralization were recorded, with visible gold noted in one of the drill holes, suggesting further potential for the mineralized system's extension.
Why It's Important?
The completion of this drilling program is significant as it confirms the potential for gold expansion in the Western Wabigoon area. The presence of visible gold and various mineralization styles indicates a promising future for further exploration and development. This could lead to increased investment and economic activity in the region, benefiting local communities and stakeholders involved in the mining industry. The findings also strengthen Kenorland's position in the mining sector, potentially leading to more partnerships and projects. The results of this exploration could influence future decisions on mining operations and resource management in the area.
What's Next?
Assay results from the drilling program are expected in the third quarter of 2026. These results will be crucial in determining the next steps for the Western Wabigoon Project. Kenorland and Centerra Gold will jointly review the data to decide on further exploration or development activities. The potential for extending the mineralized system could lead to additional drilling campaigns and increased focus on the W2 area. The outcome of these decisions will impact the project's timeline and the strategic direction of both companies involved.
