What's Happening?
Medite Smartply is set to replace natural gas with biomass for energy production at its MDF plant in Clonmel. The company has partnered with Dieffenbacher to implement a 55 MW biomass firing system. This transition is part of Medite Smartply's broader
climate action commitments to reduce fossil fuel-related CO₂ emissions. The new system will provide 20 MW of process steam, 25 MW of flue gas for the dryer, and 6 MW in thermal oil for the continuous press system. Construction of the biomass system is scheduled to begin in February 2027, with commissioning expected about a year later.
