What's Happening?
Art Rooney II, President of Steelers Charities, emphasized the profound connection between football and the community in Western Pennsylvania during the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the U.S. Steel Community Field at Hazelwood Green. He stated that football is
deeply embedded in the fabric of local communities and that the new multipurpose field will honor generations who built the region's football tradition. The field is designed to provide recreation, sports, and community space for youth from Hazelwood and across Pittsburgh, fostering confidence, pride, and belonging through team sports. The U.S. Steel Community Field is a collaborative effort involving the Richard King Mellon Foundation, Tishman Speyer, Hazelwood Green Youth Sports Charities, and Steelers Charities, made possible by a $10.8 million grant from the Richard King Mellon Foundation and additional support from other partners. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was also present, highlighting the NFL Foundation's support and the Steelers' commitment to community excellence.

What's Next?
The U.S. Steel Community Field at Hazelwood Green is scheduled to officially open in late summer this year. It will feature a full-size athletic field with seating for approximately 3,000 fans, a press box, concession stand, and a park and paved plaza area for gatherings and events. The field will become the home for the Hazelwood Cobras youth sports program and will also be utilized by Central Catholic High School for varsity and junior varsity football practices and home games, as well as soccer home games. In the future, the facility is expected to be used by colleges, universities, high schools, club, and semi-professional teams from across the tri-state region. The continued growth and utilization of this facility will be closely watched as a measure of its success in achieving its community development goals.
