Japanese technology giant SoftBank Group Corp. has announced a new cybersecurity service in collaboration with OpenAI, aimed at protecting Japan's critical infrastructure from cyberattacks. The service, described as a 'patching service,' will target the
top 3,000 companies in Japan that manage essential infrastructure such as airports, power systems, and transportation networks. SoftBank's CEO, Masayoshi Son, emphasized the urgency of addressing Japan's vulnerability to cyber threats, likening the current situation to facing machine gun assaults rather than rifle shots. Although OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, was unable to attend the launch due to personal reasons, OpenAI's chief researcher, Mark Chen, represented the company. This initiative is part of a joint venture, SB OAI Japan, established last year to develop AI services for the Japanese market.
