What's Happening?
Barminco, a division of Perenti, has been awarded a contract worth A$275 million ($192 million) to provide mining services at Barrick Mining's Fourmile Project in Nevada, USA. The contract, which spans 45 months, is set to begin operations in July 2026.
The Fourmile site is fully owned by Barrick and is located adjacent to the Goldrush Project, where Barminco is already involved with Nevada Gold Mines, a joint venture between Barrick and Newmont. The project will involve the development of twin Bullion Hill portals, part of a 16km underground development, including ground support and surface facilities. Perenti's CEO, Vanessa Torres, expressed enthusiasm about expanding their relationship with Barrick and growing their operations in North America.
Why It's Important?
This contract represents a significant expansion for Barminco and Perenti in the North American mining market, particularly in the hard-rock underground mining sector, which is the largest globally. The project aligns with Perenti's strategy to grow in tier-one mining jurisdictions, enhancing their presence in the U.S. market. For Barrick, the development of the Fourmile Project is crucial as it complements their existing operations at the Goldrush Project, potentially increasing their gold production capacity. The collaboration between Barminco and Barrick could lead to improved mining efficiencies and safety standards, benefiting both companies and the local economy through job creation and investment.
What's Next?
As operations are set to commence in July 2026, Barminco will begin the initial phases of development, focusing on the construction of the Bullion Hill portals and other necessary infrastructure. Stakeholders, including local communities and industry partners, will likely monitor the project's progress closely. The successful execution of this contract could lead to further opportunities for Barminco in the region, potentially expanding their portfolio with additional projects. Barrick may also explore further collaborations with Barminco, leveraging their expertise to optimize other mining operations.
