What's Happening?
Las Vegas progressive post-hardcore band DIV3R has premiered their new single, 'WISH,' accompanied by a music video. This release is a precursor to their debut full-length album, 'BAD CRY LOUD,' which is set to be released on October 9th via Equal Vision
Records / kill iconic records. The song 'WISH' explores the heavy, physical toll of depression, described by vocalist/guitarist and producer Jason Weiche as a 'white-knuckled ride through the suffocating physical toll of depression.' The album 'BAD CRY LOUD' itself is a reflection of Weiche's personal struggles with existential malaise and his journey to combat intrusive thoughts, written in collaboration with drummer Carlo Marquez. DIV3R has also announced a fall tour supporting progressive math-rock veterans Hail The Sun, with dates spanning September and October across the U.S. Midwest and West Coast.
Why It's Important?
The release of 'WISH' and the upcoming album 'BAD CRY LOUD' mark a significant return for Jason Weiche to fully immersing himself in music after a near-decade break. The album's thematic focus on mental health, particularly depression and existential suffering, resonates with a broad audience and contributes to the ongoing conversation around mental well-being in the arts. For the Las Vegas music scene, DIV3R's debut album and tour represent a notable contribution to the progressive post-hardcore genre, showcasing local talent on a national stage. The tour with Hail The Sun provides DIV3R with valuable exposure to a wider audience, potentially expanding their fanbase and solidifying their presence in the U.S. rock music landscape. This also highlights the continued vitality of independent record labels in supporting niche genres.

Beyond the Headlines
The deeply personal themes explored in 'WISH' and 'BAD CRY LOUD' — particularly the examination of depression and the use of music as a form of resistance against internal struggles — offer a powerful narrative beyond typical album releases. Jason Weiche's candid discussion of his experiences, including the use of plant medicine to cope with morbid desires, touches on the intersection of mental health, artistic expression, and alternative therapies. This openness can foster a sense of connection with listeners who may be experiencing similar challenges, transforming the music into a therapeutic and communal experience. The album's title, 'BAD CRY LOUD,' coined by the band to describe a primal form of suffering, suggests a raw and unfiltered approach to emotional expression, which can be both cathartic for the artists and deeply impactful for their audience.
