What's Happening?
Deel, a global payroll and workforce management platform, has acquired Clarity, an AI cybersecurity firm specializing in identity verification and deepfake detection. This acquisition comes in response to a rise in employment-related fraud involving synthetic
identities and deepfake technology. According to a Gartner survey, by 2028, one in four candidate profiles globally could be fraudulent. Deel had already been using Clarity's technology, and the acquisition aims to integrate identity verification throughout the hiring and workforce lifecycle, addressing gaps that fraud actors exploit.
Why It's Important?
The acquisition highlights the growing need for robust identity verification systems in the face of increasing hiring fraud. As remote hiring expands, the separation between recruitment and IT security functions creates vulnerabilities that can be exploited by fraudsters. By integrating Clarity's technology, Deel aims to streamline identity verification processes, enhancing security and compliance across its operations. This move reflects a broader trend in the industry towards integrating identity verification and fraud prevention into hiring platforms, which is crucial for maintaining trust and security in global workforce management.
What's Next?
Deel plans to link identity verification directly to its workforce access management systems, beginning during the recruitment process and continuing through onboarding and ongoing access controls. This integration is expected to reduce the risk of identity fraud and improve compliance with international hiring standards. As Deel continues to expand its operations across more than 150 countries, the successful implementation of Clarity's technology could set a precedent for other companies in the industry to follow.
