Union Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy has called on the steel industry to adopt emerging technologies to maintain global competitiveness and improve productivity. Speaking at Chintan Shivir 2026, convened by the Ministry of Steel, Kumaraswamy emphasized
the importance of integrating technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics into steel manufacturing. These technologies are expected to enhance operational efficiency, aid in decarbonization, and improve export competitiveness. The government aims to increase steel capacity to 300 million tonnes by 2030 and 400 million tonnes by 2035, driven by domestic demand from infrastructure and manufacturing growth.
