For the first time since September 2019, the Columbia volleyball team has swept the Ivy League Weekly Awards. Senior Avery Jones was named the Player of the Week, and first-year Elise Hiemstra received the Newcomer of the Week award. This announcement
was made by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Jones, a native of Studio City, California, delivered a strong performance in the opening weekend, recording a team-high 31 kills, averaging 2.58 kills per set, and achieving a .329 hitting percentage as Columbia secured a 3-0 record in the Big Apple Tournament. In the tournament's final match against Lafayette, Jones contributed 18 kills on 31 swings, resulting in a .548 attack percentage, along with two digs and five total blocks. Hiemstra, an outside hitter from Birmingham, Michigan, made a significant impact in her collegiate debut, appearing in seven sets and notching 28 kills, averaging 4.00 kills per set with a .418 hitting percentage. She tallied a match-high 19 kills against Iona and added nine kills and eight digs against Lafayette.
