What's Happening?
At the ISTELive 26 conference, educators and experts discussed the essential skills students need to become AI-ready graduates. The conference outlined six roles that students should embody: Learner, Researcher, Synthesizer, Problem Solver, Connector,
and Storyteller. These roles are designed to help students effectively partner with AI as a tool for future endeavors. The framework is based on ISTE+ASCD’s Transformational Learning Principles and ISTE Standards for Students, which aim to guide technology use and build digital citizenship. Educators emphasized the importance of preparing students to use AI as a partner rather than a replacement, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Why It's Important?
As AI technology becomes more prevalent, preparing students to work alongside AI is crucial for their future success. The skills outlined at ISTELive 26 are designed to ensure that students can navigate an AI-driven world, enhancing their ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and communicate effectively. This preparation is vital for maintaining competitiveness in the global job market, where AI is expected to play a significant role. By equipping students with these skills, educators can help mitigate fears about AI replacing jobs and instead focus on the opportunities AI presents for innovation and collaboration.
