SK hynix, a major semiconductor company, has revealed plans to construct a new $4 billion advanced packaging facility in West Lafayette, Indiana. This investment is part of a broader effort to enhance domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity in the
United States. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Purdue University, which will facilitate R&D cooperation and joint research in system integration and advanced packaging technologies, including High Bandwidth Memory (HBM). The facility is projected to create approximately 7,000 direct and indirect jobs during its construction phase and an additional 1,000 jobs once it becomes fully operational. Alongside the production base, SK hynix will also establish an Advanced Packaging R&D Testbed for collaboration with customers, universities, and business partners. Initial plans indicate that wafers will undergo advanced packaging and testing at this facility before 'Made in USA' products are offered to U.S. customers.
