What's Happening?
The Seattle Sounders have loaned defender Cody Baker to the New England Revolution through December 2026. In exchange, Seattle receives New England's natural first-round selection in the 2027 MLS SuperDraft. If certain performance metrics are met, New England will
acquire Baker permanently for $125,000 in 2027 General Allocation Money, with additional incentives possible. Baker, a 22-year-old homegrown fullback, has made 37 appearances for the Sounders and has also played for their MLS NEXT Pro side, Tacoma Defiance.
Why It's Important?
This loan move is significant for both clubs as it addresses specific needs. For New England, acquiring Baker strengthens their defensive unit as they prepare for the second half of the MLS season. For Seattle, the loan provides Baker with valuable playing time and development opportunities in a competitive environment. The potential for a permanent transfer also offers financial benefits for Seattle, depending on Baker's performance.
What's Next?
Baker will join New England and integrate into their squad, aiming to make an immediate impact. Both clubs will monitor his performance closely, with the possibility of a permanent transfer if he meets the agreed-upon metrics. Seattle will continue to evaluate their roster and make strategic decisions to enhance their team for future competitions.
