The International Trade Centre (ITC), in collaboration with the WTO Secretariat, has launched the Women Exporters in the Digital Economy (WEIDE) Fund in 2024. This initiative, funded by the United Arab Emirates, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Legacy Fund,
and the Kingdom of Bahrain, aims to support women entrepreneurs in expanding their businesses into regional markets and strengthening their capabilities within the digital economy. One beneficiary, Reem Halawani, founder of Bloomz-Creative Studio, highlighted how the WEIDE program is accelerating her company's growth and expansion plans. Halawani, who built her company by creating opportunities and relying on her own resources, emphasized that the fund provides crucial support that shortens the entrepreneurial journey for women. The ITC's broader mission is to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries by enhancing their competitiveness, promoting digital trade, and strengthening business ecosystems. This includes various initiatives such as Youth & Trade, ecomConnect, SheTrades, and tech sector development programs, all while championing workforce diversity, inclusion, gender equality, and gender parity.
