The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM Bank) has approved $527 million in financing for Guyana's gas-to-energy project. This project, located in Wales on the west bank of the Demerara River, is estimated to cost between $1.0 billion and $1.1
billion. It aims to establish a gas-fired power plant that will include four 57 MW gas turbines, two steam turbines, and a liquids processing facility. Testing for the first turbine is scheduled to begin in December 2026, approximately two years behind the original plan. The full 300 MW capacity of the facility will be commissioned in stages.
