What's Happening?
Frank Cassidy, former commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and assistant secretary for housing at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), has rejoined Walker & Dunlop as a senior managing director. Cassidy's return
comes as the commercial real estate industry navigates evolving federal housing policies and affordability challenges. During his tenure at HUD, Cassidy oversaw significant housing policies and programs, including a $2 trillion mortgage insurance portfolio. He also implemented initiatives like reducing FHA multifamily mortgage insurance premiums and launching the Section 232 Express Lane initiative. At Walker & Dunlop, Cassidy will advise on FHA and Government-Sponsored Enterprise (GSE) financing strategies, helping clients adapt to changing policy and capital markets.
Why It's Important?
Cassidy's return to Walker & Dunlop is significant as it highlights the ongoing challenges in the U.S. housing market, particularly regarding affordability and supply. His expertise in federal housing policies and programs will be crucial for Walker & Dunlop's clients, who are navigating a complex landscape of housing finance and policy changes. The collaboration between public and private sectors is essential to address the nation's housing shortage, and Cassidy's leadership is expected to play a pivotal role in connecting public policy with private capital. This move underscores the importance of experienced leadership in tackling one of the country's most pressing economic challenges.
