What's Happening?
A study from the University of Hong Kong has found that a single 75-minute session of brisk interval walking once a week can reduce belly fat and improve cardiovascular fitness as effectively as exercising three times a week. The study involved 315 adults
with central obesity and was conducted over four months. Participants who completed their weekly exercise in one session showed similar reductions in body fat percentage, total fat mass, and waist circumference as those who exercised three times weekly. This finding could change how physical activity is prescribed to individuals with limited time.
Why It's Important?
This research provides a new perspective on exercise frequency and its impact on health, particularly for those with busy schedules. It suggests that significant health benefits can be achieved with less frequent, but more concentrated, exercise sessions. This could lead to more flexible exercise recommendations, making it easier for people to incorporate physical activity into their lives and potentially improving public health outcomes.
